A discussion of how to study the senses in organisms other than us humans, something that I call the “Star-nosed Mole Problem,” after Ken Catania’s comparative neurobiological work identifying the sensory modalities in those animals . Why studying nonhuman senses are important. Special attention given to the cases of infrared reception and magnetoreception.
